The Robert R. McCormick Foundation is committed to fostering communities of educated, informed and engaged citizens. Its focus areas include engaging citizens (especially young people) in the civic and political process, through news literacy and First Amendment awareness, early childhood education, assistance for disadvantaged communities, and serving veterans. The foundation was established in 1955 under The Last Will and Testament of Col. Robert R. McCormick, long time publisher and editor of the Chicago Tribune. McCormick Foundation ground its work in the intent and values of its founder Col. McCormick, a citizen soldier, crusading publisher and philanthropist who cared deeply for Chicagoland.
