In the spring, we take session pitches through the Suggestion Box, and throughout the spring and summer, the <a href=\"http:\/\/ona15.journalists.org\/program-team\/\" target=\"_blank\">Program Team<\/a>\u00a0helps select and build out sessions. Now, just before the conference, we&#8217;re opening up two more ways to get involved: the <a href=\"http:\/\/onalightningtalks.tumblr.com\/pitch\" target=\"_blank\">Lightning Talks<\/a>\u00a0and the <a href=\"http:\/\/onaunconference.tumblr.com\/pitch\" target=\"_blank\">Unconference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve got an idea for a full-blown conference session,\u00a0you should pitch the unconference. <strong>If you&#8217;ve got a big idea to share\u00a0and the guts to present it in five minutes or less, send us your lightning talk by Wednesday, Sept.\u00a023.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The best part about lightning talks is that they are exciting, fast, \u00a0invigorating \u00a0and full of good ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what you do:<\/p>\n<p>1. Figure out what you want to talk about. \u00a0(Why people should stop doing X at work, a highlight reel on a great project, how journalists can be inspired by other industries, a love letter to your favorite beat\u00a0&#8230; the\u00a0sky&#8217;s the limit, as long as you&#8217;re PASSIONATE about it).<\/p>\n<p>2. Pitch your idea to the <a href=\"http:\/\/onalightningtalks.tumblr.com\/pitch\" target=\"_blank\">ONA15 Lightning Talks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>3. Convince your friends and other conference attendees to vote for your session. You can use <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?f=tweets&amp;q=%23ONA15lt&amp;src=typd\">#ONA15lt<\/a> to join the conversation on social or our main conference hashtag, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?f=tweets&amp;vertical=default&amp;q=%23ONA15&amp;src=typd\">#ONA15<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>4. Vote for your own session and other lightning talks you want to see. Voting opens Thursday, Sept. 24\u00a0and will close <strong>5 p.m. PT\u00a0on Friday, Sept. 25<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>5. When you win, (as you will since you will have submitted an exciting\u00a0idea that you are passionate\u00a0about and people are fascinated\u00a0by), \u00a0prep your lightning talk! Keep it under five minutes and get to the point quickly! No need for lots of background\u00a0&#8212; get to\u00a0the point and explain it as quickly as possible. If you make a presentation, use it to show\u00a0the audience good examples and great jokes. Don&#8217;t create a slide deck\u00a0of every word you are going to say. We can&#8217;t read that fast.<\/p>\n<p>6.
