When it comes to programming our annual conference, there’s no shortage of pressing and interesting issues to cover, even given three days to host conversations. What warrants closer examination this year?

We’ll be looking to make sure these topic areas are covered at ONA15 … and will of course be including many, many more of your ideas.

  • Elections: The 2016 Presidential election campaign will be in full swing by this fall, and we’ll be exploring better ways to look at community data, coverage, verification and audience engagement.
  • Media impact: A number of innovative media impact research projects are under way, and it’s time to take a hard look at how we define the term and, of course, how we measure it.
  • Revenue: Revenue projections continue to fluctuate, and the question of how we continue to pay for quality arose frequently in feedback for ONA14. Let’s talk about what pays, what doesn’t and where news organizations’ resources are best allocated.
  • Creative content creation: Collaborative start-ups, the expanding role of branded content and new platforms to make creative publishing easier are emerging — what are journalists doing with these tools to share narratives in creative ways?
  • Collaborative news community: The last few years have seen some incredible efforts in newsrooms collaborating with communities. Curious City, De Correspondent, Reported.ly and others have built inspiring models for connecting and engaging with an audience. How are their models working, and what other inspiring ideas might be out there?

These are just a few examples of issues we hope to cover at ONA15, and we’ll include so much more. Be sure to submit ideas relevant to your work when our Suggestion Box opens at the end of February.
