There is no single tool or data source for tracking the activities of nonprofit political groups increasing their efforts to influence the outcomes of elections around the United States, all without disclosing the sources of their growing pool of funds. As the 2016 election season revs up, we’ll discuss data sets from the federal and state level invaluable for uncovering information about how this “dark money” impacts elections and ballot initiatives.
