Amalie has been a journalist in Michigan and Iowa for more than 20 years and since February 2014 has been the executive editor and vice president for news and engagement at The Des Moines Register. Before that, Nash spent three years at the Detroit Free Press as assistant managing editor for metro-state news, where she directed local news coverage and the investigative team. Prior to joining the Free Press, Nash was the news director for AnnArbor.com, a digital-first news organization. At the Register, Nash has spearheaded a push for access to public records and was one of the editors of “Harvest of Change,” the first virtual reality news project in the country to be designed for the Oculus Rift platform. Nash has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in social sciences, both from Eastern Michigan University. She also taught journalism courses at EMU for a number of years.
