Michael is a research Fellow at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University, where he studies how news organizations measure the impact of their work with the NewsLynx project and recently published a report of the project's findings http://newslynx.org. Michael is also an adjunct professor in their Graduate School of Journalism and a multimedia journalist at Al Jazeera America where he reports, designs and codes projects at the intersection of technology and civic life. He created a graphic novella in collaboration with best-selling non-fiction cartoonist Josh Neufeld called "Terms of Service: Understanding our role in the world of Big Data", a field guide for navigating the modern world of digital privacy.
