Robert is the Political Nonprofit Investigator at the Center for Responsive Politics (OpenSecrets.org). In 2012, Robert started CRP's Politically Active Nonprofit Project which aims to create the most comprehensive data publicly available to illustrate the financial networks of "dark money" groups, mainly 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(6) organizations that do not have to disclose their donors to the public. Research and data from this project has been cited in congressional speeches and reports, state investigations, Supreme Court decisions, and most major news organizations. Robert has written for and collaborated with outlets like the Washington Post, National Public Radio, and the Daily Beast, and he has been a guest on CNN, Al Jazeera and Huffpost Live. In 2014, he won, with colleague Viveca Novak, the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service in Online Journalism for a series of stories published by the Center for Responsive Politics.
