Shadi is a Deputy Producer at Al Jazeera’s social media and mobile-first unit, AJ+, in San Francisco. She’s a mobile journalism proponent who reported for AJ+ from Ferguson using only mobile phones. She has since directed mobile efforts including producing an AJ+ team in Baltimore. Prior to joining AJ+, Shadi reported from Egypt for three years, where she also trained citizen journalists for an online documentary project. Her past work has appeared in publications including The New York Times. She is part of the inaugural class of the ONA-Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media, and has also been awarded the Kathryn Davis Fellowship for Peace, the Chips Quinn Fellowship and the Middlebury Fellowship in Environmental Journalism. She holds an M.A. in journalism from the University of California at Berkeley.
