As Executive Editor, Digital, for BBC News, Steve is responsible for the overall standards, coherence and quality of BBC News digital output on desktop website, tablet and mobile, in the UK and internationally. He oversees content from a wide range of journalists who contribute to the BBC’s online, on demand and multimedia output. He also has responsibility for introducing new digital tools and ways of working to the BBC’s news teams. Steve has led the BBC’s online coverage of major stories such as the UK general election, the Arab Spring and the Japanese tsunami, bringing live and social newsgathering and reporting to the forefront of the BBC’s digital output. During his time as Editor, BBC News Online won a succession of awards, including a Peabody award and the ONA’s Online Journalism Award for general excellence. From 2011 to 2015 he had the additional role of editorial lead for BBC News digital product development, working in partnership with the BBC’s Future Media division on a series of product launches for BBC News.
