Before joining The Atlantic this year, Matt spent five years working on digital initiatives for NPR, including launching NPR Code Switch, coauthoring the organization's ethics handbook, and overseeing the launch of 2 news teams (covering global health and development and education). Matt started working as a digital journalist at the Poynter Institute in 2003, and since then, his career has led him to stints at the Fresno Bee, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Reynolds Journalism Institute, and the Knight Foundation. He's one of the cofounders of Spark Camp, and serves on the board of the Center for Public Integrity.
